Questions
Should I get the Edge or the Air?
The Air is lighter, cheaper and screenless, so you read everything in the app. The Edge gives you a display you can glance at, built in GPS, an ECG app and an altimeter. If you run or cycle outdoors without your phone, or you want the readings on your wrist rather than in an app, the Edge is the one. The table above sets them side by side.
Do I need a subscription?
No, not for the tracking. Steps, heart rate, sleep, workouts and GPS all work on their own. The Google Health Coach and the deeper insights sit behind Google Health Premium, and three months of that are included when you buy the Edge.
Can I put a different band on it?
Yes. Every band in the Edge range clicks onto the same case with no tool. The Active, Active Sport and Magnet bands come in two sizes; the Metal Links band is one size and you take links out to fit it. Fitbit Air bands do not fit the Edge.
Which band size am I?
Wrap a tape measure round your wrist just below the bone. Up to about 170 mm is S/M, above that is M/L. The wrist guide higher up the page has both ranges in millimetres and inches.
Can I swim with it?
It is rated 5 ATM, so showers, rain and pool lengths are fine. Google describe it as water resistant rather than waterproof, so it is not one for diving.
Is the ECG app available in India?
Google make the ECG app available in selected countries only, and the list changes. If that is the feature you are buying it for, check Google's own page for India before you order.
